Khuda Kay Liye(In The Name Of God)

http://www.inthenameofgod.com/

This writing is my letter of the film"Khuda Kay Liye" for its director, which I was asked to translate my Japanese impressions to give it to the director by my professor.

Khuda Kay Liye

I saw the film without any preliminary knowledge so I think I don’t understand enough backgrounds or relationship of characters in detail.
Anyway, I will write about my impression or feelings of this film.

Firstly, before I watched the film, I thought it was about conflicts between Hinduism and Islam because I heard a little about this film from the professor that the Pakistani film has been screened in India for the first time in several years. But it’s totally different.

When I saw the film and was considering about the theme, the Turkish and Germany film titled“Gegen die Wand”directed by Fatih Akin came to my mind. It depicts quite modernistic problem of Islamic immigrants in Turkey. And especially this film also takes marriage problem from the religious view as a concrete example of difficulty in modern society.

In the film of “Khuda Kay Liye”, the theme is also the conflict between religious practice and the modern society globalized and immigrated.
The outstanding point of this film is that in each places such as U.S, Pakistan and U.K, mainly each two couplings of Islam and non-Islam are connected to one family in Pakistan. This complicated involvement of each stories is quite interesting and novel. These problems actually have occurred in real world and there’re lots of things to think about such as the way one views Islam in this post-9.11 age.

Different from typical Indian movies, the story is consistently quite serious and pleasure-seeking and jolly Indian music or dance scenes are completely eliminated, I think thanks for the superior sense in music of the director who is also music creator, including Mekaal Husan Band and other prominent sound tracks of Pakistani modern music are along with the movie. This musical achievement also contributes to the high evaluation of this film. In my impression, these sound tracks are quite influenced from modern western music though they still take pride in their Islamic identity singing “Allah” sonorously.

One cornerstone of this film is that difficulty among Islamic immigrant families living in western countries, their religion and the environment around their society. Absolute religious customs in Islam and rationality organized by laws are never reconciled. Another one is that the opposition of Islamic fundamentalism and liberalism which grows more serious after 9.11 and U.S stance for Pakistan. As in the film, U.S unfairly arrest and persecute educated Islamic immigrants only because of their religious names. The point at issue is absolute lack of understanding for other religion of Islam. In this sense, this film casts these serious issues to the society and makes it clear the real circumstances. Also this was not made by US side, made by Pakistani side that depicts post-9.11 society and the problem so I can possibly say that this film has quite important role.

I hope this film is screened all over the world not only in Japan but also western countries and lots of people come and watch it.

Thank you for reading my writing, I’m really glad to see this film and let you know about my impression. Lots of appreciations.

Sincerely,

Thinking about the upcoming music genre called "New Excentric"

Some Japanese music media refer to the term "New Excentric" often these days.I don't know how other countries media call it though.
In short, this means that thsese days there're lots of music created which have some kind of ethnic elements becouse of total glovalization through internet development such as Myspace(it's the direct influence for the music).
I think you know well about these bands like MGMT, M.I.A, CSS, Klaxons, Late Of The Pier, Vampire Weekend....etc..
These artists are taking Eastern(oriental) music elements or tastes into their western music. It has created "Post-western music" not "Anti-western music".

And one magazine said this movement was started originaly by Beck.
His new album"Modern Guilt" can possibly prove that matter.
In his previous album"The Information",he has been imagining about "White Album"of the Beatles or "Sandinista!"of the Clash. In the 60's and 70's when these albums mentioned above were released, rock music approached more ethnic tastes and took various instruments and rythms and Psychedelic atomowhere....I really love thsese periods.
This age is not just the revival of thses ages of psychedelia.
We've got any technologies in this age, so now that more artists are taking thsese things into electro, techno beats or synth like 80's music and new rave like klaxons not just mixed only with rock music.....it can cteate really large range of music and it's getting more complicated.

In my opinion,in 60's or 70's of western countries, they hardly got informations of other countries especially of the east side.So their images of east side were really unrealistic and could say that it was idealistic and distorted. But now we can get any information through internet technology and world is getting quite similar in any areas. We can far more easily go and see overseas and communicate with foreign people without gap.
So kinda Myspace has brought us the environment where we can connect to artists and people in all over the world. The point is that the definitive difference between 60's paychedelia and this age of new excentric is borders of any music are disappearing and in any countries,we can hear quite similer music and placed in similar musical situation.Vice versa, eatern artists also take western music elements into their music...

Kids / MGMT

Timebomb / Beck

Let's Make Love And Death From Above / Cansei De Ser Sexy

I wanna be the ROXIE HEART in the film "CHICAGO"

She's so sweet!
I have watched the musical of "Chicago" at one night in London....it was really great!!!!!
I saw their dancing from just close quarters. One of the actresses was really beautiful and my eyes were dazzled by that stunning woman with  short blonde hair like a "Roxie" in the film CHICAGO.

Then I watched the film again  right now and remember that excitement I was watching the musical!! I really love that kind of musicals which are really entertaining. There 're lots of sexy dancing by actors in gorgeous dresses and songs are also great.
I was really excited to watch it....if possible,I would really love to watch such fun musicals in London again!!

In Tokyo Im living in it is hard to watch foreign musicals often in cheap price....but I love that kind of culture soooo much!!! When I went to Germany,I watched an opera in the national opera theatre and was also great...european show culture is mostly magnificent and entertaining.

I wish I could live in europe.....especially London.....someday definitely!!

My Craze for Shoegazery Bands...

Shoegaze is a genre that emerged from the UK in the late 1980's. The music media called this music genre "Shoegaze" because the members of these bands often maintains a motionless performing style, standing on a stage and staring at the floor while playing their instruments, hence, the idea they were gazing at their shoes. (partly from Wikipedia)
In addition to this explanation, their sound is made of much feedback noise by using many guitar effectors. So they connected so much effectors at their feet on the floor they're playing. So they were looked as if they were gazing at their shoes! That's really nice naming!!

In 1985, the band called"The Jesus&Mary Chain" released their first album "Psycho Candy". Their sound is characteristic as the furious feedback noise and the mellifluous voice. This was the origin of the shoegazery movement. They influenced lots of shoegazing bands following to them.

In 1988, the most famous shoegaze band "My Bloody Valentine" released their first album"Isn't Anything"from the Creation Label which is famous for UK indie rock including shoegazing bands. The name of the band was taken from the B-grade horror movie made in Canada.

In 1990, "Ride" released their first album "Nowhere". The front vocalist of this band is now the bassist of Oasis. Ride is one of my most favorite shoegazing bands, and this album "Nowhere" is the very memorable album of ever! They have intelligent atmosphere and that fascinate me a lot...

In 1991, My Bloody Valentine released their second album "Loveless". This has become the most well-known album of shoegazery.

........and now 2000's Shoegazery is again looked at!
There are lots of neo shoegazing bands appearing in this age..

My favorite shoegaze bands

・Swervedriver

・Moose

・Curve

・Lush

・Slowdive

Those Dancing Days have passed.....

The Swedish girls band"Those Dancing Days"could have been heard often these days. The song of the same name as their band has been played many times in clubs and events. Though they are still very young, their name"Those Dancing Days"sounds nostalgic and makes me feel sometimes melancholy. I feel that their songs have wide range of backgrounds from 60's pops to garage, northern soul...and has the atmosphere of 80's dance culture. They don't look like the youth of today.

I wrote about it because I heard their song last night as well.....and in the next morning after clubing I always remind of their song, I feel empty feeling in the tiring morning..in a train going home....thinking of lovely friends dancing and chilling together in the night before.

Yesterday in the evening, I came to check my friends band's gig at Koenji-High. I found many event friends in that venue. At the bar counter when I was going to get some drink, I found 3 boys I've seen-2 Americans and 1 British. I met them at an event before and I asked them to come to my event at that time, after that I sometimes hung out with them. I enjoy talking with them in both English and Japanese, they speak Japanese though each of their levels are different. But I can't sometimes make out what they're talking in English only among them. They talk to me more slowly and easy way of saying, but they speak too fast while talking only among the guys.I sometimes hardly understand pronouns talking in English.....oh I've no idea what they're saying about? One of them say to me that Japanese is very hard to study for him.But I think English is also very hard for me though I have studied for about 9~10 years.....Im still not sure I can speak it properly. Both two languages are very different, so I have to think differently making sentences to say something. I think I'll never be able to get perfect sense of speaking English as native speakers whatever I may do....

Im learning two foreign languages other than English but I always get to think that way while studying any foreign languages....

There're 4 bands playing I saw and after the gig I drank with the audiences and band members at the venue. And then move to another event in Shinjyuku saying goodbye to them.
Clubing was also very fun, meeting and talking with many friends listening to good music.I saw two bands gigs there as well. They were very good and I was always impressed when I saw good gigs and I feel I'd like to play soon on a stage like them! Actually I love watching gigs better than just clubing as a audience(it's different when I dj...)...I love to see a band playing in my sight.Im getting excited by seeing performance and musical instruments and equipments...guitar,bass,amp....etc..
The first band was crazy and so cool,I love that feedback noise of the two guitars...!!
They never saw the audiences' face they looked down on the floors. Yeah they're influenced by shoegazery so they look down on their effector all the time. I think that's the cool way..haha.

D is for dangerous

When I was in a class in my University,I got a mail from my friend who I was hanging out with for a club last night. He is one of my Mixi(Japanese SNS)friends and we met first time at the event I usually play as a DJ. Last night I was not djing but I asked him to come&catch up there. We had a really fun chat as if we had been friends for ages though it was first time..
Then it's the next day before too long.

He said in the mail,

"I just had lunch with two of my classmates.I told them I went out to a club last night with a mixi friend. My Swedish classmate asked me what my friend's mixi name was."

Then he said my mixi name....

"He was surprised and said he knows you-you're also one of his mixi friends too!"

Then he said my actual name...

"My other classmate suddenly said,"oh,I know her-I met her at an event!"She said she'd also been to Strange Boutique(That's my event name!)....apparently  You know everyone!"

Yeah, apparently I know all these people he mentioned..

Can you believe that??
People having lunch together in the same classroom in a language school in Tokyo are all my friends separately I know each of them.....
What the crazy coincidence it is!!

I'd really love to hear that crazy conversation they had during the usual lunch time...:p

That's the event I told you on this blog:)
http://www.bluestarsnight.com/sb/

You should also check it out and come to this event!!
You also will be my friend soon....:p

Sunny Day In Glasgow....

It has been rainy gloomy weather these days.....rainy days really suck..
But when I got on a bus from the station to my University, this rainy sight from the windowpane reminded me of the overcast sky in Liverpool and Glasgow..so it made me  feel a little bit happy.
Last summer,I went to the UK, stayed in London for 2 weeks, in Liverpool for 3 days, in Wigan for 4 days and in Glasgow for 1 week and unplanned extra 3 days in London again.
That was amazing trip! But it's too long story to tell in short on this blog.
Oh I noticed that this time is the first time to write on this blog...
Last night,I tried to write...but they disappeared 2 times before I publish...that made me too irritated..

So this time I cordially hope it could be published safely,,,please don't be deleted..!!

Today,I took 3 classes in my Uni...first class is about learning historical, social and cultural background in South Asia, because I'm majoring in Hindi in this University so I have to take this lecture. I will tell you why I decided to study Hindi later, maybe the other time.
This class is so hard....every week,we should write a lecture report and we should attend every class in this year....no late attendance could be allowed.
And the second class, this class is for kind of foreign exchange students in this University.
My University specializes in foreign studies and familiar to Asian countries and Middle East and other minor countries studies. So lots of foreign students come to my University every year from many various countries. It's quite interesting point in my Uni...
This class is about Japanese Media and Politics. Don't you think it's quite interesting title of the lecture? I do,Im really interested in Media and its relationship with its society......and the most stunning point of this lecture is that it's done in English by a teacher from Bangladesh,he used to be a journalist in Bangladesh....amazingly he has a wide rage of knowledge about Japanese Media and politics not only this but also he knows well about real circumstances of media in many countries.

Third class is a language class.
I take basic Spanish course, this class deals with mainly grammar.
Spanish is quite interesting for me,I only know English out of european languages...
So I found lots of common points....however pronunciation is quite different from English.

Im getting to be tired, so it's about time to quit writing blog and have to go to bed for early tomorrow morning.......

See you later,good night.
and Thanks for reading.....love you all..
